919-KC-20165464-EXT - Cancer Data Analyst X2

This post can be based at one of these locations: London, Cambridge, Bristol, Sheffield, Oxford, Birmingham, Manchester

The National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service (NCRAS) generates intelligence to drive improvements in standards of cancer care and clinical outcomes. It does this by improving and using the information collected about cancer patients for analysis, publication and research. The NCRAS is a department of Public Health England (PHE) within the Health Improvement Directorate. PHE works with national and local government, industry and the NHS to protect and improve the nation's health and support healthier choices.

We now have three exciting new short-term vacancies for Cancer Data Analysts (National). These posts will be part of the analytical team developing and delivering an innovative programme of national work, including for example:

Supporting high-profile national work on projects including evaluation of the Be Clear on Cancer campaigns, treatment pathways and Routes to Diagnosis
Working with the Cancer Analysis System (CAS) functional team to provide reports and analysis for driving improvements in completeness of cancer data and helping to make CAS fit for analytical purposes
Developing an understanding of the datasets held in CAS, particularly the treatment datasets, contributing to documentation and analytical Standard Operating Procedures across the team
Responding to adhoc requests and requests from the PHE Office for Data Release (ODR), liaising with internal and external stakeholders and advising on data availability
Providing some administrative support for the CAS functional team and Office for Data Release (ODR) requests
We are looking for people who want to work in a distinctly team-based environment. You must therefore be a strong team-player, with the ability to work proactively and under your own initiative. You will develop and maintain excellent relationships and work with teams and multiple stakeholders both internally and externally. You should ideally have a proven track record of delivering high quality reporting to a wide range of stakeholders across multiple organisations.

You will have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail to ensure data quality and integrity are maintained. Ideally you will have experience of working within a health or cancer focused environment using systems to collate, quality assure, and make data available.

You’ll support NCRAS by undertaking analyses, writing reports and briefing internal and external audiences in ways that make the complex easy to understand, particularly for non-specialist audiences.

The successful candidate should have experience of working within the NHS, PHE or a similar organisation on health related or cancer data. Ideally you will have experience of working within a cancer focused environment using systems to design, produce and deliver reports.

Open to all external applicants (anyone) from outside the Civil Service (including by definition internal applicants).

Applicants are strongly advised to use the criteria in the person specification (available online) as sub-headings in their application to make it clear how they meet each of the selection criteria. Please also see job description for competencies
