STS Specialist Trainer (Quality Management)



Specialist Training Squadron at Royal Air Force Halton delivers 3 strands of Governance and Assurance to MOD personnel across three subject areas of Environmental Protection, Health & Safety and Quality Management.

A vacancy has arisen for Specialist Instructor delivering Quality Management training for Specialist Training Squadron based at RAF Halton.

Quality Management training is a mandatory requirement that is critical to defence output. This vital training underpins and directly supports worldwide operations (recently USA, Gibraltar, Cyprus, Brunei and Falkland Islands). You will be expected to routinely deliver training at front-line RAF Stations. This will include travel throughout UK and abroad as dictated by the training programme. Therefore, we are looking for a well organised, independent and driven candidate, who is dynamic and adaptable to a fast-paced environment. A confident public speaker, who is happy to regularly travel and deliver training on the road.

RAF Quality Management systems reflect Military Aviation policy and are underpinned by the principles of ISO 9001. The training is delivered across the UK and overseas with courses that range from 4.5 days Lead Auditor courses to Management of Quality courses that last 0.5 days.

The enthusiastic individual that we are looking for will ideally come from an MOD Quality Management and/or Training background with the desire to develop themselves and others in the delivery of Quality Management training to Service and MOD personnel. It would be highly desirable is experience in an airworthy/air safety environment. However, for the right person who may not have this background if found successful at interview and 10 minutes presentation training and education in this subject will be given.

There are development opportunities with the Defence Instructional Training course as well as attendance (unless already qualified) on an accredited ISO 9001 Lead Auditors Course. Successful passes and completion would be expected within the first six months of post. There are other continuous personal development opportunities to support the successful candidate in this role.

Responsibilities include:

• The specialist instructor role is to deliver a suite of Quality Management Training
• Training to RAF and MOD personnel in support of Military Air Environments Quality Management Systems.
• Delivering training in accordance within the relevant Learning Specification L-Spec) at venues both at RAF Halton, abroad and other MOD establishments as detailed on STS training delivery programme (expenses will be paid).
• Directly responsible to their designated Training Manager (TM) for the delivery of their designated training in a judicious cost effective and timely manner.
• To remain current in their designated Specialism’s Legislation, RAF Policy and relevant subject matter as appropriate. Direction and training in this area will be given
• Act as Subject Matter Advisor (SMA) for designated training and ensuring that all routine course design/maintenance is implemented accurately, within timescales so that course content remains current and of the highest standard.
• Preparation of Classroom and Seating plans before the start of each course. Ensuring that equipment is functioning correctly and is in a safe condition.
• Production and maintenance of training packages to include course pack-ups, personal training aids, exercises etc. to facilitate training delivery and meet training objectives.
• Liaison with Quality System Co-Ordinator’s at Stations in relation to off site activities.
• Marking of examination papers, within required time scales, as required forwarding results to Training Support (TS) staff.
• Qualifications from and training in STS’s other subject areas, as discussed with your line manager.
• Arranging own travel and accommodation for offsite working (expenses will be paid).
• Opportunities for project work developing Technology Enhanced Learning.

STS is part of 22 Group based at Royal Air Force Halton. STS delivers training in three subject areas, Environmental Protection, Health & Safety and Quality Management. You will have high exposure to key personnel, as STS delivers one of the largest training outputs for the RAF..

As part of the Better Defence Estate Strategy it was announced that RAF Halton would be closing 2022. The scope and potential relocation of posts is still to be identified.
