DE&S Defence Munitions Beith - Craft Apprentice

Defence Munitions (DM) Beith is a Ministry of Defence (MOD) Establishment. It is a component part of the Weapons Operating Centre (WOC) and in turn forms part of the larger Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S). At Beith, we manage the storage, safety, technical compliance and co-ordination of processing and distribution of complex munitions.

We are looking to recruit 6 Craft Apprentices to complete a 3-year Modern Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering. The training programme will include the attainment of Core skills at intermediate level one, Performing Engineering Operations (PEO), a National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering and a level 3 SVQ in Mechanical Engineering during phases 2 and 3 of the training programme.

The first phase of the training schedule will be delivered off-site by our Apprentice Training partner East Kilbride Group Training Association (EKGTA) at their East Kilbride facility. As the training provider is within daily commute of DM Beith, all candidates will be expected to make and fund suitable travel arrangements to ensure their timely attendance between the hours of 08:00 and 16:00, whilst attending EKGTA.

The second and third phases of the training programme will be delivered on-site at DM Beith, however apprentices may require some travel to attend additional off-site development training and courses during each of the phases of training.

The aim is for successful candidates to start at DM Beith in August 2019 and subsequently commence training at East Kilbride
