We are currently seeking applications for a Lead Bee Inspector within the Animal Health and Welfare division. Although the division is based in Edinburgh, the location of the post holder is flexible. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

This role combines a policy role, delivery responsibility and leadership for a busy area that is of considerable ministerial, public and press interest. The post holder will provide on-going policy direction for bee health in Scotland, including delivery of the honey bee health strategy, the annual inspection and reporting regimes, ensuring compliance with bee health legislation, engagement with internal SG policy makers in other areas and external stakeholders across Scotland and the UK.


Qualifications Required
Qualified to SBA Intermediate level or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of formal training, with 5-10 years experience of active beekeeping in the UK.

For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

Essential Criteria
1. Qualified to SBA Intermediate level or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of formal training, with 5-10 years experience of active beekeeping in the UK.
2. A sound knowledge and understanding of the regulatory framework and current policy issues in the Scottish and UK beekeeping and bee farming sectors.
3. A self starter with proven comunication skills who is able to work as a strong team player to get the best from a diverse team.
4. Flexibility to travel, to work out of hours and away from home regularly.
