This role offers the opportunity to work within a diverse and multi-disciplined team within the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA). The SDA is responsible for the United Kingdom's submarine maintenance and build programme; a top priority of the UK’s defence programme and one of the largest UK programmes in existence. Working with our key industrial partners, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce and Babcock Marine, we are striving towards delivering submarine capability in a more cost efficient, effective and safe way.

Our Engineering function enables the delivery of our equipment and support by providing specialist expertise in domain-related disciplines such as: mechanical, electrical & power distribution; software, sensors & electronic systems; acquisition safety & environmental protection; quality assurance; ordnance munitions & explosives, as well as systems engineering & integration.

Exciting opportunities have arisen for Technical Specialists to join the SDA at their Headquarters in Bristol Abbey Wood. These challenging opportunities will see you providing expert advice within a team of professionals who are immensely proud to deliver and support some of the UK’s largest, technically challenging and most important engineering projects. You will support on technical problem solving, coupled with appropriate management planning abilities to resolve complex engineering problems. You will typically support the definition of technical requirements, manage solution development and ensure compliance with the customers’ requirements. At this level, your role may also encompass elements of planning, performance reporting, and the development of its people.

The SDA are looking for specialist skillsets in providing expert advice for the in service, maintenance support, through life management, repair and obsolescence of specialist equipment across the submarine enterprise and candidates with expertise in Engineering Structures.

One of the projects you could be involved in is the Trident Systems Project where you will be responsible for the Trident missile, including the missile firs control and navigation system. You will be providing in-service support to the systems and project managing the introduction of new hardware. You will be reviewing documentation changes, drafting safety approvals, reviewing logistics support, developing through life management plans, providing technical solutions, reviewing hardware and documentation for statutory and regulatory compliance.

Another project you could have the opportunity of working within is the Naval Authority Group within the Submarine Structures section. You could be working in a small team involved with the management of Key hazard Certification for Submarine Structures. You will be responsible for liaising with Submarine New Build and In-service Submarine Structures and management of vital technical projects. Additionally you will train to be a subject matter expert providing advice to projects and collaborating internationally.

Please note this role will require periodic travel to the US and Scotland.

Within this role you will have the responsibility and opportunity to use and grow your skills and subject matter knowledge to help the SDA ensure that the armed forces are capable of operating in the most demanding environments. Key to your success will be your ability to apply specialist and technical engineering knowledge to solve complex problems in order to support the SDA in delivering one of the biggest projects in the UK today.

To be successful you will be have:

- An HNC or equivalent qualification or the equivalent technical experience
- Proven problem solving skills and the ability to make effective decisions
- Demonstrable experience in leading, collaborating and communicating
- Delivering a quality service at pace

One of these posts require the successful individual to undertake engineering analysis of structures.

It would be advantageous if you have experience in Aerospace, Nuclear or Marine Engineering, however the SDA have a variety roles available so knowledge of all Engineering disciplines would be acceptable. Additionally, a knowledge of safety and quality processes would put you at a distinct advantage. It is not essential for you to have submarine/ship engineering knowledge as the SDA will provide training.
